Reading of Meniscus

For precise reading it is not helpful that the liquid stands higher at the wall of a container and forms the surface as meniscus. We read the value at the lowest point of the liquid surface, that means the lowest point of the meniscus shall even touch the upper border of the measure mark (see picture 1).

For burettes with Schellbach stripes the reading has to be made at the level where the wedge-shaped two points are touching (see picture 2). When reading the scales it is important that the eyes are at height of the fluid level. Otherwise it results in reading errors (parallax errors).
